A Black American Cultural House · Est. 2016
Built from the root.
Made to last.
From nothing.
For us.
Forever.
A house, not a shop.
Rags No Riches is a Black American cultural house built through culture & hair. A place to be received, a craft worth keeping, and a table you come back to.
A shop sells you a service and returns you to the street.
A house does something else. It has rooms, and rules, and people who know your name without checking a screen. It expects you back. It keeps things for you between visits; your part, your pattern, the thing you said last time that you thought nobody caught.
We aren't building a salon that happens to have good branding. We're building a house, and the chair is one room in it.
The three pillars
Everything here sits under one of three pillars. If a piece of work can't name its pillar, it doesn't belong to Rags No Riches.
Homecoming: the door. How you're received before anything else happens.
Heirlooms: what gets kept and handed on. Technique, tools, the recipe with no measurements.
Mac and Greens: the everyday table. The ordinary made sacred by repetition.
The Big House
The Big House is the sanctuary Rags No Riches built this house to hold; and The Kitchen is a room inside it where actual work happens.
The Kitchen opens in April 2027, after our first stylist hours are completed and their license is in hand. You can step inside The Big House now to see how a visit is built, or see the full services menu.
The Saved Plate
A single good visit is a good day. A standing one is a different thing entirely.
The Saved Plate turns the chair into a rhythm. Three plates, one idea: your place is set, and it's already on the calendar.
The Library
While the chair is still being built, the craft is already being written down. The Cosmetology Master Notebook (coming soon) is the working record of one person going through 1,000 hours: hour tracking, study notes, the diagrams redrawn until they stick.
The community
There's already a room, and it's open. A small gated Discord where the build is visible and the conversation goes both ways.
